An important part of caring for Calla lilies is to repot the plant as soon as the lily becomes root bound. This is not a complicated task, since you can simply remove the plant from its pot and place it in a larger container. You do not need to disturb the roots by loosing the soil; just place your plant with the old soil in the new soil. Fill the new pot with soil up to ¾ of an inch from the rim.
Caring for Calla lilies involves keeping the soil wet and never allowing it to dry out during the growing period.
An important task for those caring for Calla lilies is also to feed their plants liquid flower food every three weeks during the growing period. A weak flower food solution is enough. Placing your flowers in a sunny window where the average temperature stays around 70 degrees Fahrenheit is recommended.
Caring for calla lilies will also include giving your plants a chance to rest. Many Calla lily keepers think that proper caring for Calla lilies will lead to constant growth and flowering, but this is not true. All Calla lilies require an annual rest period to do well. When the foliage show signs of withering, you should allow the plant to dry down. The Calla lily needs at least 6 weeks of rest. After 6-8 months, you can repot the plant and gradually give it more and more water. When the flowers have opened up completely, the Calla lily will need large amounts of water.
